Problem Note 62819: PROC GLM and PROC ANOVA generate "ERROR: Invalid characters were present in the data"
The following error message might be generated when you use PROC GLM or PROC ANOVA:
ERROR: Invalid characters were present in the data
The error occurs in SAS® Studio University Edition or SAS® Studio Basic edition when all of the following conditions are true:
- The browser language is set to French.
- The ODS HTML5 destination is open (the default for SAS Studio).
- The SAS system option for encoding is set to UTF-8 (the default for SAS Studio University Edition and SAS Studio Basic).
- The SAS system option for locale is set to French.
To circumvent the problem in SAS Studio, change the browser language to English.
The error occurs in SAS® Foundation when all of the following conditions are true:
- The ODS HTML5 destination is open.
- The SAS system option for encoding is set to UTF-8.
- The SAS system option for locale is set to French.
To circumvent the problem in SAS Foundation, use ODS HTML instead of ODS HTML5.
